Fairoz Al-Wrafy

Member of the Technical Committee
Netherlands

A distinguished microbiologist with a Ph.D. from the Hirschfeld Institute of Immunology and Experimental Therapy at the Polish Academy of Sciences in Wrocław, Poland. Her research focuses on Pseudomonas aeruginosa, studying its virulence mechanisms, biofilm formation, and antibiotic resistance, with an emphasis on microbial interactions in polymicrobial communities. She investigates the competitive and cooperative behaviors among microbial species, shedding light on how these interactions can intensify infections and complicate treatments. Dr. Fairoz also explores novel therapeutic approaches, particularly using bacteriophage-derived proteins to address antibiotic-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strains, aiming for sustainable solutions to current treatment challenges. Her research extends to the study of emerging environmental pollutants, such as pharmaceutical residues in wastewater, and their role in accelerating antimicrobial resistance. Her work highlights how pollutants can act as selective agents, promoting gene transfer and microbial adaptation. Her findings have been published in high-impact journals, establishing her expertise in medical and environmental microbiology. Dr. Fairoz has also contributed to the academic community as a guest professor at Han University of Applied Sciences in the Netherlands and has been hosted at the Medical Immunology Lab at Radboud University Medical Center. She continues to make significant contributions to addressing global challenges in infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
