July 2025 | Regional Release
In July 2025, EPN published its second newsletter (Volume 1, Issue 1), focusing on the growing challenge of emerging environmental pollutants and the urgent need for regional research and regulatory action.
This issue placed particular emphasis on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and microplastics, presenting scientific insights into their environmental occurrence, persistence, and potential health impacts. The newsletter underscored the limited availability of Arab-region data, the lack of harmonized monitoring frameworks, and the dependence on overseas laboratories for advanced chemical analysis.
By combining expert commentary, scientific summaries, and regional perspectives, the newsletter called for investment in analytical capacity, stronger research collaboration, and the integration of emerging pollutants into national environmental and public health strategies.
The Arab Network for Addressing Emerging Environmental Pollutants (EPN) is a pioneering initiative aimed at addressing the environmental challenges related to emerging pollutants in the Arab region through enhancing regional and international cooperation and providing sustainable solutions.
