Building on its PFAS technical report, EPN convened a high-level scientific forum dedicated to addressing PFAS contamination challenges in the Arab region.
The forum brought together more than 130 experts from 14 Arab countries, including specialists in environmental chemistry, toxicology, exposure science, public health, and environmental law. Discussions focused on scientific uncertainties, analytical standardization, and the absence of enforceable PFAS regulations in many national frameworks.
Participants identified critical priorities, including the harmonization of laboratory protocols, establishment of a regional PFAS observatory, creation of a shared Arab PFAS database, and integration of PFAS limits into national environmental legislation by 2030.
The forum concluded that addressing PFAS pollution requires a coordinated regional response that links science, regulation, and public awareness. Observers described the forum as one of the most focused and technically advanced Arab scientific discussions on PFAS to date.
The Arab Network for Addressing Emerging Environmental Pollutants (EPN) is a pioneering initiative aimed at addressing the environmental challenges related to emerging pollutants in the Arab region through enhancing regional and international cooperation and providing sustainable solutions.
